LANCERS BEAT OLATHE SOUTH TO END REGULAR SEASON

Shawnee Mission East split a double-header with Olathe South Thursday, May 9 and finished the 2013 regular season with a 12-8 WINNING record. The Lancers have posted more victories than losses for the fifth season in a row. A mark that hasn't been met in at least 13 years. The 12-8 finish ties East with three other schools in their region. So a drawing between those teams will take place Saturday morning (5/11) to determine who will host a regional for the 2013 season. Olathe East has already locked up the #1 seed and will host one of the regionals. The Lancers lost the first game to Olathe South 2-1 in a heartbreaker. But then East rallied from a 5-0 deficit in the second game to come back and beat South 8-5. The Lancers came together offensively behind their pitcher, Rowan Turner, and combined key bunts to advance runners, and timely hitting to score runs. Great defensive play was also a key to victory. Regional play should start next Wednesday or Thursday for the Lancers. With lots of luck, Shawnee Mission East WILL be the first name drawn out of the hat so that they can host a regional. THE SUN CAME OUT FOR OUR SENIORS!

It was a long time coming, but the 2013 Senior Night saw beautiful weather as the Lancers defeated the SM North Indians 10-0 and 5-0 in their final home double-header of the season. All four seniors had a hand in the victories, with great hitting, defensive plays, and coaching by our four wonderful senior players. Congratulations and you will be missed!

2012 Regional Champions

Lancers Face BV West in Regionals, May 15

The Lancers will face Blue Valley West in game one of their Regional, Wednesday, May 15 at 3 p.m. The games will be held at SWIDAC, which is located at the corner of 135th and Switzer near Blue Valley Northwest High School. The winner of game one will face the winner of the Blue Valley Northwest vs. Shawnee Mission West game. That championship game will be played on the same night at 7 p.m. with a four-way tie for the third seed, a drawing was held at the Regional seeding meeting Saturday morning and the Lancers ended up as the #5 seed.

Softball Banquet, Tuesday, May 28

Lancers Join National Honor Society

Congratulations to our three juniors: Savannah Bellem, Corey Kirkpatrick, and Erin McGinley for being inducted into the Shawnee Mission East Chapter of the National Honor Society. These girls were nominated and selected by the faculty at SME and had to meet certain academic, and community service requirements. The four pillars of NHS are Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character. Nice job ladies!

TURNER RECOGNIZED NATIONALLY!

Junior Rowan Turner was recently selected for her outstanding efforts during games occurring over April 22-28, as the MaxPreps/NFCA (National Fast Pitch Coaches Assoc.) National High School Player of the week. Turner hit at a .750 clip (12-for-16) with six doubles and 10 RBIs, while also posting a 4-0 pitching record with a 0.00 ERA and 16 K's over 20 frames. Included in her impressive efforts at the dish were perfect 4-for-4, four-RBI performances against both Olathe North and Shawnee Mission West. On the season during that week she was hitting .558 with 10 two-baggers and 21 RBIs while in possession of an 8-1 record with a 1.07 ERA and 51 K's over 58.2 innings. She is one of five players selected and is representing the South Central Region of the country. It is quite an honor for the Lancer!
